I have played all of the public courses around south central CT this year and I have to say The Tradition at Wallingford is doing all the right things. The fairways and greens are awesome, the service is the best and you can't beat the price.

Played Gillette Ridge yesterday and was totally disgusted with the condition of the bunkers. Also, there was no water on the back nine and it was 90 degrees. I expect these conditions at some munis but not a course that is supposed to be a high-end course. Unacceptable! Not worth the money to play at this point.

I have been playing a lot of golf in the Southington area, at all Southington courses and Timberlin GC in Berlin. Without a doubt, Hawk's Landing CC and Timberlin get five stars for the condition they are in, and the speed of play. Hawk's Landing has come a long way thanks to the head greens keeper Bob Silva, who has been allowed to do his thing. Each hole has 4-5 separate tees that are pristine, with greens free of ball marks. Fairways can play as you lie without any problem. Of the four courses (add Southington CC and Pine Valley GC) Hawk's Landing has the only driving range and it has grass tees. Hawk's Landing, Southington and Timberlin offered the best daily rates, particularly for seniors.
